Day 24 and 25: Weekend Update
I didn’t do much this weekend. There was a lot of sleeping
to be caught up on. And a lot of beach time to be had.
I am really dark right now and it’s awesome. I have noticed,
however, that most Brazilians do not tan at the beach. There are umbrellas
placed throughout the beach and people pay 5 reais, that’s like 2.40 dollars,
to sit under the umbrellas. One of the reasons why they do this is so that they
do not get darker. There clearly are racist elements in their culture. Of course, there are people
who tan, and I think those people are beautiful.
One of the most interesting things is the lack of clothing. I
still cannot get over the fact that women wear practically nothing and men wear
speedos. It goes to show that Brazilians are comfortable with their bodies, and
that there is not such a strong stigma against those who do not have a “perfect”
body. It is by far a much more forgiving and loving culture when it comes to
body shape.
On Sunday we went to church, and got ready for our trip to
the sertão.
